Ralphie: Where?

The Old Man: Oh, behind the desk, against the wall over there. Why don’t you go check it out? Go on.

Mother: What have we put over there, honey?

The Old Man: Santa Claus probably brought it.

Ralphie: Wow!

Adult Ralphie: Oh, It was beautiful. I could hardly wait to try it out.

The Old Man: Do you know how to load it?

Ralphie: Yeah.

The Old Man: Yeah. Be careful. Careful. Don’t— They run all over. Close it up. Close it up.

Ralphie: Can I... Can I try it out, Ma? Can I?

Mother: Okay, but outside. Oh, I still say those things are dangerous. Now, now! Put on your galoshes and your coat. It’s cold out.

The Old Man: I had one when I was eight years old.

Mother: What if he hurts himself? Ralphie, your coat! Don’t shoot any animals or birds.

The Old Man: Except the Bumpus’s dogs.

Mother: Oh, be careful, Ralphie.

Ralphie: Now, it is well known throughout the Midwest that the Old Man is a turkey junkie. A bona fide glutton, a turkey freak. A few days before Christmas, his eyes would begin to gleam with a wild and ravenous light.

Ralphie: Okay, Black Bart, now you get yours!

Ralphie: Oh my God, I shot my eye out!

Adult Voice: You’ll shoot your eye out, kid. You'll shoot your eye out.

Mother: Ralphie, you be careful out there. Don’t shoot your eye out.

Adult Ralphie: She hadn’t seen. She didn’t know. My eyes were fine. The BB must have hit my glasses. My glasses? Oh no! Where are my glasses? Few things brought such swift and terrible retribution on a kid as a pair of busted glasses.
